Use small high flavor quality baits during the winter period .Stringer baits cut to release extra flavor and that all important feeding trigger. When planning for a long summer assault on a chosen venue try using the same flavored baits but use different shapes & sizes,possibly with a bait dip for that added attraction.
For best results I have found that producing my own flavored boilies has given both me and my son James our best results,including a 23 pound mirror caught on a very difficult water.
